What you need to know

Day 1 - Learn to block fur felt hood using steam. Day 2 - Learn to finish the blocked hood into a hat. This course is open to IATSE212 members and permits only. Please contact education@iatse212.com to register We will provide a fur felt hood that will be the starting point for your project. Upon registration, participants can discuss what type of hat they may want to create with Carolyn who can assess viability and appropriateness . We will provide the large supplies and materials required for blocking and participants will be responsible for providing any trim and decorations they would like to add. We will also send a list of basic hand sewing supplies that participants should bring. Pre - Requisite skills : You should have basic hand sewing skills as you will be using a running stitch and back stitch. Instructor : Carolyn Devins Carolyn Devins learned to make hats from her grandmother who was a milliner in the 1920’s in Germany. Carolyn has been working in the field of costuming for both theatre and film since obtaining her Home Economic degree in 1986.
